Top 10 Villains of The Shadow
This list serves
as personal opinion only. I rank these villains on a number of factors,
most notably their importance in the pulps as well as how much of
a threat they bring to The Shadow and how regularly they may have
appeared in all Shadow media.
Greg Daulton
1.) Shiwan Khan
The Shadow's arch-nemesis (featured in The Golden Master, Shiwan
Khan Returns, The Invincible Shiwan Khan, and Masters of
Death, and the 1994 film, The Shadow)
2.) The Voodoo Master
The only villain next to Shiwan Kahn that is a physical match to
The Shadow (featured in The Voodoo Master, The City of Doom,
and Voodoo Trail).
3.) The Prince of Evil
The villain that claims to have taken more lives than any other
villain (featured in The Prince of Evil, The Murder Genius, The
Man Who Died Twice, and The Devil's Paymaster, all written
by Theodore Tinsley)
4.) The Wasp
The Wasp is a villain that was a threat to a few of the Shadow's
key agents (featured in The Wasp and The Wasp Returns).
5.) The Black Dragon
The Black Dragon appeared to be an evil mirror image of the Shadow.
He had as nearly as many henchmen as The Shadow had agents (featured
in The Black Dragon)
6.) Double Z
Double Z murdered for ransom and had quite the body count. He was
a gamesman with a zest for killing and a homicidal sense of humor.
Double Z ended up being a very challenging adversary for The Shadow
(featured in Double Z).
7.) The Black Falcon
Leader of the group of super criminals known as The Salamanders,
who proved to be quite the problem for both The Shadow and his agents
(featured in The Black Falcon and The Salamanders).
8.) The Cobra
(Featured in The Cobra).
9.) The Hydra (group)
LThe Hydra was a group of assassins and super criminals (featured
in The Hydra).
10.) The Black Tiger
This villain is notable as an amalgamation of two pulp villains,
the Lone Tiger and what is either The Black Dragon or The Black
Falcon (featured in the notable 1940 movie serial, The Shadow).
