Fan Fiction: Crossovers Can't Get You Outta My Head
Chapter 9 (pt 3)
Spider-Man made a harsh buzzer sound. "I'm sorry, your answer must be in the form of a question."
"Uncle?"
The older man flipped the coin. "Heads."
The Shadow raised the knife high, covered his eyes, and brought the blade down fast. Ruche jumped, but his hand stayed where it was. The knife missed his skin by inches, and bit into the wood, between his first and second finger. Shan felt himself start to shake.
"Does Khan plan to move Diane Burke in the near future?" The Shadow asked.
"Not until she has awakened," whimpered Ruche.
The old man nodded, and The Shadow cut another finger loose.
"Where is Khan?" asked The Shadow again.
"I-I can't say." Roche was afraid, watching the coin in terror as his fate was decided by random chance.
"Heads again." reported the old man.
The Shadow worked the knife loose, raised it high, covered his eyes, and brought it down.
Ruche yelped as the blade bit into the wood. This time so close that he could actually feel the cool metal against his hand.
"What does Khan want with Diane? Is she a student, partner, or soldier?" Asked The Shadow.
"H-he wants a trained projector as a main weapon. None of his warriors can mind-cloud."
Spider-Man nodded, and The Shadow cut another finger loose. "WHERE is Khan?"
Ruche remained mute.
"Tails" reported the old man.
The Shadow picked up the revolver, pointed it right between Ruche's eyes, and pulled the trigger. A sharp click: no bullet.
Ruche felt the sweat trickling down his neck, felt himself twitching.
"WHERE IS KHAN?" The Shadow demanded.
Ruche was sobbing now. "I-I cant."
"Heads." declared the old man.
The Shadow raised the blade high, covered his eyes, and slammed it down.
Ruche screamed and pulled his loose fingers to the left, just barely getting them out of the way.
"WHERE?" bellowed The Shadow.
Ruche whimpered pathetically.
"Tails." called the old man.
The Shadow picked up the revolver, pulled the hammer back. "There is a 1 in 5 chance that this is the bullet." He pulled the trigger. Click.
"WHERE?"
Ruche heard an odd noise, realized it was his teeth chattering in terror.
"Tails." the old man said calmly.
The Shadow picked up the gun, pulled the hammer back. "One in Four." he whispered, pulled the trigger.
Click.
Ruche felt faint. Still remained silent.
"Heads." called the old man.
The Shadow picked up the knife, stood up this time, covered his eyes, and raised the blade high.
"ALL RIGHT!" screamed Ruche. "I'LL TELL YOU!"
"You took a hell of a risk there," commented Spider-Man.
The Shadow looked completely calm. "How so?"
"You could have killed him the first time with that gun, that's what Russian roulette is all about."
"Oh I doubt that there's much chance of that, seeing as the one bullet was a blank."
Spider-Man was silent for a moment, then burst out laughing. "And I bet you were peeking through your fingers."
The Shadow laughed. "No, but I've practiced that trick too many times to miss."
Moe's cab started to slow. "There it is boss." Moe called from the front seat.
The Shadow looked the uninteresting building over. "You ready?" he asked Spider-Man.
His partner nodded vigorously. "Lets give 'em Hell."
