Fan Fiction: Crossovers
Can't Get You Outta My Head

Chapter 8 (pt 3)

Peter shook his head. "He phoned. Left a message. Basically said to stay out of his way. But what do you care?" as he left he mumbled. "I never appreciated how alike you two are."

With a growl, Stephen was on his feet, and turned Peter around. His look was pure anger, but this time, Peter would not flinch, or back down.

"Prove me wrong." Peter said softly.

Stephen slowly sat back down. Peter and Victor watched him intently. Finally, Stephen spoke. "I'll say it again: I am not going to risk my life for that woman, without a good, practical, pragmatic reason."

Peter sighed and headed for the door.

  "But theoretically..." Stephen started.

Peter smothered a grin and turned back once more. "I love to watch the gears turning." He said to Victor.

"Theoretically, what would such a reason be?"

"Firstly, it would give her less chance to spread your secret." Victor offered.

"Because the sooner you strike, the better the chance that Diane will come willingly." added Peter.

"And because if Khan is training her, then sooner or later, I'll have to face them both." agreed Stephen, then he suddenly thought solemnly for a moment. "And because it is the right thing to do. And because writing off someone's life is what Khan would do, and because taking the easy way out is what Diane would do. Peter, you have likened me to both Diane and Khan in the last two days, and you were right for a moment there. I was briefly like them both. And my hatred for them made me forget that I am not the same as them." he turned to Victor. "Do you suppose that's reason enough?"

"Well, how about this?" Peter said. "Khan threatened you on the phone. Said that if you don't but out, then there would be consequences."

"Well, that is practically an insult." Stephen had a mischievous glint in his eye. "And nobody insults The Shadow and just leaves thank you very much!" With sudden resolve, Stephen stood up, finished his coffee, and dashed the mug in the fireplace. "Peter, we have a job to do!"

Peter cheered and they headed for the door.

"By morning, Diane will be safely back under this roof, or I will be dead." Stephen said. Then he stopped. "Remind me again, why am I doing this?"

Before Peter could answer, Victor spoke up. "Guys? How are you going to find Khan?"

Stephen suddenly looked at Victor. "I hadn't even considered that. He has a point, we have no lead."

Peter grinned. "Yes we do. An unconscious Mongol warrior, who is at this moment, tied up in the ivy outside."

Stephen started laughing. "You tied him up in the vines?" He continued to laugh as they left the room to find their prisoner.
