Book 1 - Chapter 4

As Bruce read through the rest of the journal it became clear Ra's had become sidetracked from his goal by various wars and battles throughout history. The next journal Bruce saw marked with the medallion was dated 1957.

  1957...

Zorro entered his cave through the waterfall entrance. He led his black Andalusian horse Midnight to its stable inside the cave, as he entered the main part of his lair he suddenly stopped and was startled! In the middle of his sword training plateau, there was a man sitting shirtless with his legs folded and a large Arabian sword sitting in his lap. Zorro quickly regained his composure and addressed the man, "I do not know how you came to find this place my friend, but there is steep price for invading the lair of a fox."

The man slowly opened his eyes and responded, "Zorro! The fox is it? While a fox is a cunning predator they themselves are hunted for sport by beings who are far more dangerous and cunning than themselves. It is appropriate that you call yourself the fox for I am your hunter and I am as far advanced from you as a normal hunter is from the fox he would hunt." Zorro smirked as he looked at the man, "My friend we have an old saying here, do not hunt what you cannot kill, and I assure you that if the prey you pursue is me then you have engaged in a quest that will only end in your defeat." The man stood and looked at Zorro. "You mistake my intentions while you may be my prey for you will die if you do not take the offer I am about to make. You are not what I hunt. I am Ra's al Ghul and it is my task to help return the world to its natural state without the festering infection of mankind continuing to plague it. I hunt the medallion that is around your neck for I am destined to be the next human to enter Shambala and have their gifts bestowed upon me to carry out my crusade. I have studied you Zorro I know everything about you and your predecessors. You are an honorable man and capable warrior. I offer you the chance to surrender the medallion and pledge allegiance to me. You will receive a place of high command in my army and stand by my side as we usher in a new era for mankind. If you refuse my terms then I will be forced to slay you, and unlike most hunters I would appall the death of such a fine creature as yourself."

Zorro stood and thought for a minute. This man knew everything about him and the medallion. His mentor had told him how the medallion was actually the key to a place of great knowledge and power, and how it was Zorro's task to protect it at all costs. This was the moment Zorro had been trained for he drew his sword and laughed saying, "I will die someday as we all do, but not today and not by your hand."

Ra's glared at Zorro with anger and said, "That is where you are wrong my friend we do not all die. I shall live forever. As for you though, know that death is like a vintage wine you should savor it, however since you are so eager to die I shall grant your request!"
