Fan Fiction: Crossovers
Can't Get You Outta My Head

Chapter 8 (pt 2)

"We have to go after her!" snapped Peter.

"That is Stephen's decision. He is The Shadow now." Countered Victor.

"What's going on?" asked Stephen who was just entering the room.

"Diane has been captured. Khan's boys just grabbed her from her room."

Stephen looked stunned. "Oh." He seemed lost in thought for a moment. Then, "Is that coffee cake?"

  "Cinnamon croissants." clarified Victor.

Peter just stared when Stephen sat down to eat. He waited for his partner to laugh and admit the joke, but Stephen kept eating.

Finally, he couldn't stand it. "Well? Aren't we going to go save her?"

Stephen looked amused at the concept. "What for?"

Peter wasn't sure whether to laugh or to smack Stephen right between the eyes. "Because she's in trouble."

Stephen stood, gestured for Peter to follow him, and headed for the top of the main staircase. "EVERYONE?" he shouted into the hall. "MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE?" After a few moments, the house staff had gathered at the base of the stairs. "Everyone, Diane has left, and she isn't likely to be back." Stephen said, "Peter has suggested that I should go find her, and bring her back here."

The entire staff immediately began booing. One of the cleaners actually threw a scrubbing brush at Peter.

"Okay," Peter allowed as they headed back to the dining room. "So she isn't exactly popular. I can understand that, but over the years, I've saved a bunch of people that I hate."

"Was it worth it?" Stephen asked with a hard voice.

Peter choked on his own tongue for a brief moment, then decided to tell the truth. "Okay, so they made my life hell, but it was still the right thing to do." They had re-entered the dining room, and Peter turned to Victor for support. "Didn't you teach him right from wrong?"

Victor put down his coffee cup. "Well yes, but with Diane Burke it's sort of a grey area."

"GREY?" Peter couldn't believe this. "Will you two listen to yourselves? Stephen! This is a woman you used to love, kidnapped by an enemy you hate!"

"Trust me Pete, the way our luck runs, Khan will be at our door in a week, demanding that we take her back."

Victor and Stephen burst out laughing in the Shadow's mocking tone.

"FINE!" stormed Peter. "I'll go rescue her myself."

  "Good luck." called Stephen.

Peter whirled. "You ARE serious. You're actually gonna let her fry?"

Stephen sipped his coffee calmly. "Peter. I am not going to risk my life for that woman, without a good, practical, pragmatic reason."

Peter turned again. "Maybe Khan was right. Maybe I do need a new partner."

Stephen suddenly sat ramrod straight. "Khan was here?"
